When most of us think of health and youthfulness or disease and aging, we tend to focus on the physical body. If we’re dealing with autoimmunity, cancer, heart disease or just getting old too fast, it seems logical to focus on the parts of us that appear out of whack. Nonetheless, if we only focus physically, we’re missing out on addressing break down from non-physical approaches and losing leverage over the condition of our bodies.
These “non-physical dimensions of health” are our mental, emotional and spiritual natures and each is linked to our physical body through biochemistry. Ultimately, how we think, feel and connect to life will show up on our bodies, for better or worse. From a mental standpoint, health involves thinking correct thoughts. Thoughts of positivity and optimism generate neurochemicals of positivity and optimism. That means improved healing, better immunity and slowing down the aging process. Likewise, emotions of love and forgiveness activate peptides and steroids associated with improvement in all the markers of health. From a spiritual perspective, nothing is more important than our relationships to each other, nature and the divine force, however you describe it, for keeping the body healthy resilient and youthful no matter how many years we may have under our belt.
