The human body is constantly breaking down, but, if it’s working correctly, it’s simultaneously building itself back up. Well, it’s obvious that building biochemistry, which scientists call anabolism, is important. What’s less obvious is that the biochemistry of breakdown, called catabolism, is also significant. This catabolic process in the body is nature’s way of eliminating the old cells and tissue so that the body’s constituents always remain fresh and new.
Anabolism and catabolism, which together form what’s called metabolism, are occurring continuously. When we’re healthy, we’re more anabolic than catabolic. As aging proceeds and when illness shows up, we’re experiencing the opposite: more catabolic breakdown than anabolic build-up.
Once we understand this, we can simplify health and the healing process. There’s no mystery to aging and chronic disease. They’re just the manifestation of a body that’s breaking down faster than it is building up. All we need to do to reverse the situation is turn up anabolism with nutrition, rest, respiration and exercise, as well as positive psychology. While we, at the same time, slow down catabolism, by avoiding toxicity, problem foods and psychological stressors. It’s all about metabolism. Yes, wellness is pretty much that simple: good stuff in bad stuff out, and let the intelligent miraculous healing body do the work.
